The Polish Falcons of America is one of the oldest Polish-American fraternal organizations in the United States, founded in 1887 in Chicago, Illinois. Inspired by the Polish gymnastic and patriotic movement known as the Sokół (Falcon), the organization was established to promote physical fitness, Polish heritage, and civic engagement among Polish immigrants and their descendants.
During World War I, the Polish Falcons played a pivotal role in recruiting and training Polish-American volunteers who formed the Polish Army in France — known as Haller's Army — contributing to Poland's independence in 1918. This legacy of service and patriotism remains central to the organization's identity.
Today, the Polish Falcons of America operates through local chapters called Nests across the country, offering life insurance, scholarships, youth programs, and cultural events to members and their communities.
Polish Falcons Nest 79 has served the Polish-American community in the greater Southgate and Downriver Michigan area for generations. Founded by Polish immigrants who settled in the Detroit metropolitan region, Nest 79 has been a cornerstone of Polish cultural life in southeastern Michigan.
Over the decades, Nest 79 has hosted countless community events, dances, picnics, and cultural celebrations that have brought together families of Polish heritage. The Nest has also supported local charitable causes and maintained strong ties to the broader Polish Falcons of America organization.
Members of Nest 79 take pride in preserving Polish traditions, language, and customs for future generations while welcoming all who share an appreciation for Polish-American heritage and community fellowship.
